mud vs sand?

i just built an ecosystem and I'm wondering if i should shell out the money for the mud $75 per 10 lb bag "i need 20 lbs " $150
or should i do it with south down? money isn't a factor realy i just want to do it right but if i can save some money it will be a big help.

I don't think you going to get a straight answer with your question. Some people swear by the ecosystem method and others say it is a waste of money. Others swear by the DSB method and others hate it. If money is not a factor try both and pick the one you like or try some thing different and run the eco system and DSB together. I no this is not the answer you are looking for and until some one can come up with the perfect recipe for building a reef tank you will always get different opinion from just about every body you ask.

For ME DSB with a good skimmer and bi-weekly 20% water changes is the way to go. IMO
