I put the inverted plastic bottle trap in the tank yesterday. I am using a silverside for bait. The mantis seemed interested but still no luck. How long should this take?I dont like leaving food to rot in my tank.

it's hit or miss really.. might never catch him that way.. might catch him in 5 min.. who knows.. if u know which rock he's in it's easier to just pull the rock and flush him out IMO.

A whole lotta luck is needed into tricking a mantis into a trap. I agree with the above, pull the rock out and squirt a little fresh water into the hole, he should come flying out.

Is there risk involved for the rock. Like die off?

a quick fresh water dip really won't hurt anything, and infact if you just squirt a little water in his hole it will do even less.
PS if the mantis is a nice one i might be interested.
