I have heard of finding small fish and snails in the overflow, but a hermit crab? Well, last night I found a hermit crab in the outer box of my Lifereef Slimline overflow. He was stuck in the smaller section of the box that the U-tube empties into and I could not reach him with my fingers. I used a toothbrush to knock him into the larger section of the box, and then I retrieved him and plopped him back into the tank.
I don't know if he went for a ride throught the U-tube or just climbed out of the tank and dropped into the overflow box. Now that the back and sides of the tank are covered with coralline algae, the hermits can pretty much go where they want to.
