has anyone heard of or used old castle sand? is it aragonite sand? thanks for your reply , TJ

it is the same as southdown just under a different name.

it is the same if it say TROPICAL PLAY SAND!!! oldcastle bags alot of differant sand.make sure it says tropical play sand

I saw a bunch of bags of this stuff @ my local H-D but it said on the bag not sutible for aquarium use. What is the problem?

that is because aragonite sand has an agreement with them. it is just to cover there buts basiclly.if it says tropical play sand it is the same as aragonite sand it is alot cheaper though.i use it in my 29,90,120,and 180.it is in a red and blus bag with a bot on the cover

Our local home depot is stocking a ton of one of the types of Old Castle Sand (there's definately more than one kind), but one our reef club members did a test and said it wasn't aragonite.

What's that really quick test? Baking soda or something mixed with it and if it doesn't bubble then it's good stuff?

Don't try that because I can't remember exactly how the test goes but someone here will know.

I would be very leery.

Ahh thanks

You know I may be thinking of regular home depot sand and not OldCastle.

Anyways the point was that there is a quick test you can do to see if it is the good stuff or not.
