I have been designing my sump/fuge. I am thinking of redesigning it with the pump and skimmer in the center. This way I can reduce the flow to the refugium side.u

I have no idea what it should look like with the skimmer and pump in the center with the overflows running to both sides of the sump. Slower flow on the fuge side and regular flow on the other.

If you have any pics please post them.

Here is the design I have been working on and am going to revise.

Take a look at the Model F and Model G sumps on my site, as they are what you are talking about.

Marc,

Thanks. I was pointed to your site last night on another forum. You have a great site. Thanks for the pointers. Please review my design and let me know what you think.

Thanks again,

Torrey

The center section will hold, at most, 3g according to your drawing. I would increase that quite a bit, unless you pan to top off every single day. Your refugium doesn't need to be so large, so I'd suggest you trim it down some, and allow more space for your return area. I always encourage large return areas, because it gives you a couple of days of evaporation in case you can't be there 24/7.

Do you plan to put your heater in the 'fuge? That is where mine is.

Regarding your drainline plumbing, that is alot of pipes. I'd suggest you put one draining into the skimmer section, and then take the other one and split it where part of the water goes to the fuge and the rest to the skimmer side.

Other than that, looks like you've got yourself a plan! :)

Marc,

How much smaller would you make the sump so the return would be larger?

Thanks,

Torrey

I would reduce the refugium's length to 16" and give the 7" to the return zone. A refugium doesn't have to be immense, ime & imho. 12" x 12.5" x 12" is 7.8g refugium.
