I am going to hang pendants over my tank I am going to build. I have been looking around and I like the round ones the best. It got me thinking that couldn't I go down to Home Depot, find an inexpensive pendant I like, gut it and put a mogul socket in it, and hook that up to a ballast. Any problems any one can think of with this idea? Reason for doing this is I can have what ever look I want and even with parts getting discontinued easily change styles so they all match.

Probably no problems as long as the fixture was designed for something that runs as hot as MH. (Sodium, Halogen, etc.) Maybe not a problem anyhow, but just my first thoughts. :)

Just from a little searching around I am shocked more DIYers are not doing this. You can keep or add style to the room and keep the cost down all at once. In some cases it would be easy to mount more than one in a row.
