Has any one ever cemented (with mortor mix or portland cement) live rock together. I want to make some arches in the tank. I would do it over a year, so not to loose too much of the good stuff on the rock.

Check out http://garf.org under their how to section.

They make rocks, caves, arches etc and tell you the process.

I think it may be what you are looking for.

You might run into some issues trying to keep the live rock alive while you cure the cement. I understand that it takes weeks to get the cement cured enough to use in a tank.

Others have used plastic coat hangers and epoxy to bind live rock together to make arches. Drill holes with a masonry bit, stick plastic hanger in hole with some epoxy to make it stick, stick other rock on. Kind of like a dowel joint.

I hear some cement leaches out phosphates. Hear an Idea I've been playing with. Drill 1 inch holes throught the large pieces of LR and then place a 1" PVC PIPE throught them. That way they will have a center support for the rocks and such.

Use a product called thorite. It's a cement that is applied underwater, however it works much better when it's applied out of the water and allowed to cure, about 24 hours.

yeah, the curing thing with Portland type I&II....I have some cool aragocrete *still* curing from early fall (pH is still over 10.0)!!! I to be honest only empty the 5 gallon containers and re-fill with water bi-weekly so the process could be hastened with a daily change (PITA!).
