linkia starfish.......toxic when they die?

I was wondering if the linkia starfish are toxic when they die? I was told this, but the sorce wasn't very reliable.

They are not "toxic" like an anemone would be but will raise your nitrates/trites like any other decaying animal,so it should be removed ASAP.
