I just bought a 'filefish' and it has about 3-5 white spots that
shure do look like Ich. i didn't notice them at the store, so....
i'm wondering if raising the temp would be a good solution?
(it's about ~80F cheap thermo.) Or should i lovingly medicate
it i.e., trap it in a container etc..

Many thanks.

Hi:
This is pretty common. If the fish has a few spots and is doing well. i.e., eating, acting normal, and doing fish-type things, then keep a watchful eye on him and should the fish not be able to fight off the ich in 2 days, then act.

Do a search for ich treatments.
The two best ones are use of copper or hyposalinity. Both techniques CANNOT be used in a reef tank nor in the presence of inverts.
Keep us posted

well......being the first fish in my 5 month old reef tank, i had to
learn..somehow...

Many months ago i attached a length of tubing to a pwrhead
so it would draw water from the bottom of the tank, well, guess
who swam into it and got stuck while i was away at work for
half a day :( The tubing is gone and so is the fish:(
