medium base vs mogul base

What is the difference? And will medium base bulbs work in a mogul socket? Please excuse my ignorance.

Medium base socket is for 175W SE bulb. Mogul socket is for 250W & 400W SE bulb.

The medium base socket is the same size (1� diameter) as a regular light bulb. And the mogul base socket is 1-1/2� diameter!
To my knowledge most Metal Halide’s over 150-watt are the 1-1/2� Mogul Base style!

Every 175w SE bulb I've seen uses a mogul socket. You may be thinking of 150W.
