I know the regular lighting i have in my tank is not strong enought for the corals and anenomes that i intend to add later on. I would just like to know what reccomendations you guys have for these type of corals button and colony polyps,Yellow Colony Polyp ,Hairy Mushroom Coral ,Bullseye Mushroom Coral, and a Green Fluorescent Mushroom Coral. If you could inform me on what lighting i need, i would really appreciate it. Thanks:rollface:

I have pretty much the same corals in a 15G Via Aqua and a 20G High. The 15 has a 2x18w and 2x13w for a total of 62 watts and the 20 has 3x65w. I also have candy cane, montiporas, leathers and ricordeas in them and all do well.

the general rule of thumb is to buy as much lighting as you can afford, you wont regret buying a good light.

Yeah thats it basically. Actually the corals you want are pretty low light. The yellow and button polyps generally do better with more light (put them higher up), the shrooms with less light. You will do just fine with PCs, normal flourescents, T5s or VHOS as long as your watts are high enough. I would say try to get about 100-150 watts or more over it and you will be fine (will be a little harder with NOs, you will need 5-6 tubes over it!!!). Lots of folks will disagree on brands but I like the coralife power compact combo hoods (2 X 65 watt pcs, one actinic, one 10,000 k white). Cheap, nice look and takes care of all the light you need for the tank. You can always add a metal halide pendant later on when you get the SPS bug while still using the coralife as actinic supplementation. Hellolights.com has them pretty cheap, my experience with them was ++++. There are lots of other options out there, just do a search on brand to get more opinions on it.

Look on e-bay. Right now there are some ridiculously low prices on Jebo power compact light fixtures. 2x 55w for $55 ??
