Well, Santa was good to me and brought me a new digital camera, I'm reading the instruction manual like crazy trying to learn it, it's my first digital camera and I need some advise. I have taken some pictures of my tank and downloaded them to my computer, hower, the files are huge and I'd like them to be small enough to show all of you, how do I make the picture small enough to fit on this site?

It's a Canon Power shot G5, and it has 5.0 mega pixels if that helps, don't ask me what a mega pixels is, I have no clue LOL

Read your manuel and lower the size and/or quality. They won't be good for printing but they are just fine to upload to the web. I have a Minolta 5.2 MP and that is what I do.

I usually knock the quality down to Econo and the size down to 680

Also you can resize your pics by installing this free program from Microsoft. Once the program is installed right click the image and select resize.

u either have to host it on a site or put it in your gallery. save the pic to ur computer then put it in your gallery. then click on the picture. u should then be on a page with only the picture. copy the link. then post a reply to a thread. there is a button near the top that says IMG. click on it and then patse the link that u copied on it. then hit enter. the pic should work.

I have the picture on a website, but I can't get it on here for some reason. I'm supposed to put before the link and after the link, right?

That way also works.

The reason your earlier posts where you try to upload an attachment to RC doesn't work is that your picture is still too large for RC (RC wants no more than 50 kB).

What I use for resizing pictures is Irfanview (I think www.irfanview.com), which is a free image editor. You've obviously already figured out how to download from the camera to your computer (I'm assuming you're using a PC with some flavor of Windows, such as 98/SE/2K/XP). I happen to like Irfanview better than the MS stuff for resizing, because it's relatively easy to use, and it does an excellent job of resizing the picture (and it runs fast...). If you play around with the menus, you get to the resize/resample, then, you can select a pixel size. For RC, something like 500x400 works quite well. After you have resized and saved your picture (with a new name!), you can use Windows Explorer to look at the properties of the new picture. If it's 50K or less, you're set to upload it.

Like this.

You can then go to the RC 'my gallery' and do the same thing(s).

You've got a really good camera. Don't try to screw around with the camera resolution settings to get a lower resolution; just get an easy-to-use photo editor & go for it.

Sure looks like your picture, AEA. The full size is 500x375 pixels (think Monet) and about 80 kB. The reduced size (thumbnail) is 400x300 pixels and 34 kB.

I'm going to do something really weird and repost your picture here, using the thumbnail size.

Y'all, this is AEALOVESHERGIRLS's coral, hear?

Keep in mind that you cannot use the IMG code with certain hosting companies, or if the URL contains characters such as #,%,&,@,?.

I used the link to check out the picture and it's very nice. I look forward to seeing more. You can also upload them in your RC gallery.

Here's an article I wrote that may help you with using the upload feature and IMG code: http://reefcentral.com/faqs/imgcode/IMG%20CODE.htm
