Just got an e-mail from a buddy in Iraq. While you are unwrapping presents and feasting on honey-baked ham this christmas, say a prayer for or think about the soldiers fighting for your freedom...

...from a soldier of the 101st Airborne in Mosul....

Well were do I start, yesterday my platoon got RPGed twice at the same time, and
opened up on with small arms fire. One kid 20 years of age took shrapnel to the
neck barely missing his juglar vein and his arm was peppered with shrapnel. He
is in fair but stable condition. Another kid took a huge piece of shrapnel in
the chest. He is ok didn't penatrate that far. It rocked our world. Then I
stayed out there after this and let those guys come on back. This morning
machine gun fire opened up on us about 730 and my soldier, my machine gunner,
standing next to me got shot in the stomach, he yelled he was hit, I rushed over
to him and felt for blood so I could stop the bleeding. Well there was no
blood. I then ripped his vest off and notice he had a very pink stomach. Then
I checked his vest out really quick and notice a hole though it. Well as I was
noticing it I felt a lump of something warm. I move the opening of the hole
over to the lump and saw a bullet. I pulled the bullet from the fibers and show
it to him and said "he's your bullet" Well his was white a ghost. The vest we
wear stopped the bullet and it didn't even strike the plates. It struck right
below the plate. He is doing fine now. The other guy on the roof with me was a
brand new guy straight out of basic training. Only been in the army for four
months and in iraq for about a week. He was pretty shaken up but he is already.
Because of my actions the last two days and what happen to him Me and the guy
that got shot is back here tommorow for down time but I don't see that happen.
Also our battalion TOC (tatical operations center) got mortar today about ten
rounds landed on it. Also there was a huge pro-sadaam rally today and Bravo
company of our battalion went there and shot a couple of people. So it has
been a very interesting couple of days. Looks like I will head home around feb
the 3rd. Got around 45 days left in this (crap)hole. Well just thought I would
send you a SitRep on whats going on. Everybody take care and I will see you in
Feb.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Drink one for me

This is not intended to be any sort of political discusssion. Just remember the guys over there this christmas.
