Snopes.com says he was a zebra, but almost everyone says its not true, and you would be able to see the stripes. I personally have never seen a zebra on black and white tv (and filmed with a black and white camera) so I dont know the answer.

Sure looked like a palomino to me, particularly the white face.

I watched this show when growing up. Mr. Ed is 100% horse and as tdog44632 said a palomino!

A Zebra? Give me a break!

A horse is a horse of course of course and no one can talk to a horse of course, unless that horse is the famous mister ed. Go right to the source and ask the horse he'll give you an answer you can endorse. What never heard of a talking horse? Talk to Mr. Ed.

From memory.... sad I know.

More on subject. And you know Flipper, Flipper lives in a land full of wonder.....

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale......

...A taleof a fateful trip.
That started from this tropic port, aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailing man, the skipper brave and sure
Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour...a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed..if not for the courage of the fearless crew, the minnow would be lost..the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle withGilligan, the skipper too, the millionaire and his wife, a movie star, the professor and Mary Ann here on Gilligan's isle...

How about?
Who can turn the world on with her smile.........
