Yes it is! Get it before it takes over your tank.

It's not in my tank, it's in a guys tank who want to see me his live rock. ($140 for 65#)

Guess not!

How much would I invest in killing them? Since I am buying the live rock and driving it home, is there another way to kill it while the rock is outside the tank? Freshwater dip, or anything?

Now that I look closely at the pic, those rocks are infested with apista. I dont think you will be getting a deal since theres more work to be done and you might get reacurences .

Many ways of dealing with apista. You can inject a thich paste of kalk solution. You can try to yank it out when the LR is out of the tank. Grind the spot where the apista is. Break of the piece where the apista is.You can try to do the fresh water dip but you could take other life with you. You could get some peppermint shrimps, its hit or miss with them since they dont always go for the apista, even less when its fully grown like that one is. Do a search and you will learn many ways of seadling with apista.

Any idea where I can get quality, cheap lr? I know usually quality ans cheap usually don't go together, but paying $300-$400 for more live rock just doesn't sound very exciting.

the way i would do it is to kill off as much of the aiptasia in a holding tank first by injecting them in the stem with lemon juice. if you put them in in a holding tank thats seprate from your other tanks (so you dont have to recure the rock) then just kill the aiptaisa that way. its cheep and easy and they dont grow back. just a word of warning though the lemon juice is very low ph so if you go hog wild with it it will kill everrything it the rock. use as little as possable. it dont take much to get great results. i dont have much aiptasia in my tank but when it does show up i get rid of them right away. 1 seringe $2.00 at walgreens and $2.50 for a bottle of 100% real lemon juice. this is just my oppinion though.

welcome to saltwater keeping 101

If you look at LiveAquaria.com they have the best deal in town right now with Carribean Rock at 1.60 per lb. I bought 100 lbs and it's curing now. I REALLY like the shapes better than my Kaeleini rock in my display tank.
