Damaged Sponge

We just got our rock from TBS, There is a HUGE sponge on top of one of the pieces, and it got a little crushed on top, 80 percent of it still looks ok. Should I cut my losses and remove the whole sponge because it is going to die anyway? Cut away damaged part or leave it alone and hope it will heal?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Leave it be......if it pukes, then remove it......most likely will be ok.....Your tank looks killer!
