I'll go old school metal, but it is actually almost impossible to actually pick a favorite. Just off the top of my head, I will go with Metallica.... "creeping death". The main guitar riff makes you want to break things.:) Kirk Hammet is the mozart of metal.

To whoever said Motor Head, a friend of mine was just out in LA and was in their new video, or it could have been Lemmy solo... don't know... Dave Grohl, though, was playing drums. She has a picture of he and her with a bar of Teen Spirit, the deodorant.

But lately I've been listening to Stone Sour and Godsmack (I'm Alive rocks!)

Not really a metal artist, but a really good metal/drill & bass song with some of the finest drum work (some mad programming skills): Come to Daddy - Aphex Twin

Dillinger Escape Plan (one of Mike Patton's bands) did a cover of it, haven't heard it, though.

Nobody has mentioned Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, or Faith No More. Surprising since there's been a few Nu-Metal crap bands listed, and FNM hates the blame they recieve in regards to it.

Creeping Death Metallica. That song ruled when it came out. Still does, live version is awesome too.

ClemSnide, I used to really like FNM "we care a lot" when it first came out.

I'm digging out an oldie thread.

Favorite hardcore metal album of all time Slayer: Reign in Blood

Favorite metal album Kyuss: Welcome to Sky Valley

tdixon was right, Kyuss played some of the heaviest music in the early to mid 90's and no one really new too much about them. Some of the old members started Queens of the Stone Age.

I love Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Pantera etc....

I haven't seen anyone post one of the best "newer" bands IMO... Godsmack!

Granted the last two albums sucked, but every song on their first three albums ROCKS! They are even better in concert. Saw them with Metallica 2 years ago, it was a dream concert for me.

Anyone ever heard any Death or Atheist? Atheist and Coroner are probably my favorite bands, followed closely by Death.

Death's cover and Priest's original of Painkiller win for the dumbest lyrics and most cheese, yet being able to make the lyrics and cheese awesome. Aside from that,

Hallowed Be Thy Name - Maiden
Heaven and Hell - Sabbath
A Lesson in Violence - Exodus
Nosferatu and Totentanz - Coroner
Ripping Corpse - Kreator
No Truth - Atheist

And an absolute classic of death metal, Death's Zombie Ritual.

If you can't tell, I like metal a little bit.

Alice in Chains
Man in the box

AudioSlave
GodSmack
Korn

and many, many more I can't think of right off the top of my head
