Beating yous score wasn't the hard. Saving the picture was. How do you save the picture?

What's my incentive to reveal that?

I had 200 lines twice when I used to play on Nintendo for hours. Towards the end, they come so fast it's all luck at 190. You get about a half a second to do something with the block, and can really only nudge it over about half the screen width even when the pile is at the bottom. I have a PC version now, and can't even come close to that.

Medaka

Bah, I tried it, but the control is too slow when it gets fast >.<
lost it at 90 lines.

sammystingray
12/05/2003, 03:38 AM
I agree, with this version you are forced to use one hand on the arrow keys, and a version where you can use one hand to turn and one to move side to side is a lot easier. Not to mention the screen is about two inches wide.:D

Just run it on a REALLY slow PC with about 20 other applications churning away - should slow it down enough to beat that score...

Thanks, Jamesurq. For the record, I'm running this on a P4 3.06GHz.

There you go then.... Should be plenty slow.

yeah, i couldn't save it either. I had 91 lines but 34,510 points. I like to build it all up first, then take it down with the one long shape. ;-)

Another one is that Microsoft Pinball - I have over 2 million points on that thing. My husband went out of town about 5 or 6 years ago, and I was lonely, so I wore that game OUT.

electric130, how do you account for a score of 51,353 at level 9 and 84 lines? I haven't analyzed scoring, but I have taken up to 4 lines at a time, and not noticed a bonus for this. I'm not implying that you altered the score (easy to do with an editor), just trying to understand how you score could be almost double at a lower level/line count.

BTW, you should post your pic as a link instead of IMG since direct linking doesn't work on freewebs.com.

You do realize that Tetris was the last and most effective weapon of the cold war and the only one to directly impact the US! :D

Did it!

electric130
12/06/2003, 05:12 PM
the pics always show up when i enter the URL for the IMG. and as far as the score goes, you get well over 1000 points for a "Tetris" and i think it goes up the higher level you're on. there are other tricks to getting higher scores on tetris, but i'll leave that to you to figure out. i used to be the tetris master back when i had i on the original Game Boy some12+ years ago. you don't want to believe it? fine, i'll silently chuckle at my achievement. i that game, i think i had easily over 20 tetris's. that's the key to getting a high score. try it your self. do 12 lines at one line each and then 12 lines using 3 tetris's and compare the score. just tried it again, on level 1, 1 line gave me 58 points, while 1 tetris gave me 1216 points. on level 5, 1 line was 217 points, and 1 tetris was 6016 points. not hard to get a high score when you get tetris's on higher levels.

MarkS

OK, I give... What is a "Tetris"?

yes, check out the master right here. ;-) If you look, you'll see that the way i like to get my points is by building the Almighty Tetris. Notice i have only 2 lines so far, and the red long one on the far right is just getting ready to drop into the slot. This is where the big dollahs come in.

I love this game. i WILL have the alltime score. ;-)

If you guys really like Tetris, you should try to check out Tetris: The Grandmaster (by Akira). It is a coin-op arcade game that I have (unfortunately) only seen at the UCLA arcade on campus, but look for everywhere I go. It is by far the best Tetris game I have ever played, and that is quite a few as I am a Tetris fanatic.

The playability is second to none, because although the levels and speed advance to the point of an instant drop to the bottom, a split second delay before the piece locks in place allows manueverability for those who are truly skilled.

If anyone knows of a machine other than the one at UCLA, I'd love to hear about it, especially if it's for sale :D

electric130, I am trying to beat your score, I can only beat the lines so far. You must be making tetris' left and right. :p

As for school, I'm at WFU right now, and I'll be finished in 2005. In all actuality, school might be hard, but it's totally been enjoyable so far. I think because I worked fulltime and went to school fulltime for my undergrad, it made things a little harder; but now, since I am working minimally and letting my husband take care of us, life in general is much easier, even though I'm in a tough program, becausen now I have the time to devote to it and enjoy it. I think I moved up a level on Mazlow's hierarchy when I got in. Where did your wife go to school? what specialty did she choose? I'm thinking family practice and plastic surgery. Maybe I can do both...:p

electric130
12/07/2003, 10:52 AM
she went to Methodist in Fayetteville. she's doing GI for her main job and working an urgent care part time for some family practice experience. she really likes both, but she said she wouldn't want to do family practice full time. it would be easy to get burnt out on. she also just got a part time slot at an ER that pays awesome. she wants to do all 3 for the experience, but she can't find the time in her schedule so far.

neuroracer
12/07/2003, 10:59 AM
I did my pre-program experience by working at a family practice/urgent care. I'd like to find one exactly like it; she's right, in that it takes a special type of person to enjoy plain family practice. The urgent part is the key, since the emergencies can make things a little spicy. I couldn't do a plain family practice. And ER is interesting too. I also think of plastics, it has great hours, minimal if any call, and excellent patient quality. I wish I could somehow get a job where I would do a different speciality each day of the week. Oh well, I am going to just enjoy school right now, and see where my rotations lead me.

alright, since you guys wanted to start counting lines too (hopefully the link works)

High Score, High Lines (http://www.freewebs.com/jreaton/tetris-score-2.jpg)

if that doesn't work, then try this link and look at the second picture:

Look at Trial 2 (http://www.freewebs.com/jreaton/pics.htm)

just go drink a can of Red Bull, give it an hour or so till you're jittery, and then play. you'll respond faster and it's more fun too.

Guess I have my work cut out for me. :) ephedra, Red Bull, it's all good. just natural performance enhancers. once you hit level 11, the blocks don't seem to get any faster. the key is to keep your base low and get 1 line at a time. you scores are a lot higher in the higher levels. that last 50,000 points came probably in the last 4 levels. i stop going for tetris around level 8. i think i got one on level 9 though (not trying for it) and it was worth 15,000 points. after that, i just go for one line at a time. you have to get in a zone. you almost unfocus your eyes so that you have the base of the blocks, the current piece, and the next piece in view at all times so you know what to do before it's too late.

You know what.....I never even went for score, the lines were the interesting part for me. I mentioned earlier I had hit 200+ lines twice back in the day, but I am simply amazed anyone could do it on this tiny little viewing area. Perhaps my resolution is way too high. Did anyone drop theirs down to play a larger screen??

I haven't cheated the game in anyway as far as I know. My computer is not old/slow, but I am running XP (I think Jamesurq mentioned that that would make it "plenty slow").

I actually got that score on my 6th game, and the first two were spent figuring out what keys worked for controls. For those of you who may not know, you can use the "Z" and "X" keys to rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise and then use the arrow keys to move left and right and drop. Using two hands to play makes control much easier.

Getting a Tetris (especially at the higher levels) really boost your score. ;)
