How deep should canopy be to hold MH and VHOs

How High should the canopy be over the water to house 2 250 watt MH and 4 110 watt vho?

Mine is 12", which puts the lights around 7-8" above the waterline.

I built mine out of 12" pine and covered it with the 1/4" oak finish plywood. My MH are about 5" off of the water.

My canopy is 14 inches tall with my mini pendants 7" above the top of my tank (about 7.5 inches above the water line).

Whoops! I thought you meant how many inches tall is the canopy itself :D Mine is 9" from the water.
