I am hoping I get enough Christmas tips this year to buy myself a digital camera! I would love to post pics like the rest of you guys!!:D

Oh, I think I have a few things in mind, but would settle for a little less stress in my life and a little more time with my family.

Otolith, any occupation with "chief" in the description sounds stressful! Your reply made my wish sound so "materialistic"-

Tdixon, sorry to make you feel bad. It wasn't my intention in the least.

In all honesty, my first reply (that I ended up not posting) was a reefmania.net Ca reactor and a pair of Tunze 6100s with a controller. :D

The only present I want is to be able to go home and spend the holiday with family (Just moved to NC, from MN)...

Well, and a wireless media adapter, and touch screen remote for the home theatre ;)

I know I'll see my family though.. not counting on anything else

No hard feelings-that first reply of yours would be sweet!

Last year, a reef tank was at the top of the list-Luckily my customer's tipped enough to provide me with one!:D I have since doubled that amount in additions- God I love this hobby! (Wife may say different):D

Talking about digital cameras, I am divided between a Sony DSC-V1, or a Canon S400- What do you guys think? Both can be bought off EBay with extras for under the purchase price at local electronic stores--

Chris Mu. I have a Canon G2 and I love it. It's a great camera. I sometimes have a difficult time taking macros, but think it's just the photographer. ;) IMHO, I don't think you could go wrong with either camera.

my boss has the g5 but he just has it cause he has nothing better to spend money on ... im gonna see if he will let me borrow it for a few days ... he has a crazy 500 lense that is on it now .. i didnt see much for extra lenses for the nikon .. maybe im just not looking hard enough.. i hear nikon is known for macro shots .. heh heh thats what i wanna take

I want a digital camera for Christmas too, which one is the best one??? (within reason)_:D

Chris Mu.
12/01/2003, 11:27 PM
i saw some nice macro shots with the nikon 5700 of a dollar bill .. you could see the fibers that make up the paper .. the g5 wasnt as good macro style .. but the were both nice for normal pics

Chris Mu.
12/01/2003, 11:28 PM
i think the g5 is around 500 and the nikon 5700 runs about 650-700

12/01/2003, 11:56 PM
Wow!!! I did for a while,, but my boss was in it for the money only...you know what I mean,,,there's more to it than that,,,That's a long time to deal with all of that,,,

Chris Mu.
12/01/2003, 11:56 PM
y do yo ask?

Chris Mu.
12/02/2003, 12:09 AM
he's been getting into the dogs a little heavy but the reef still is strong here

we have about 30 40gal breeders full of coral and about
20 40gal breeders full of fish...

i've been pushing him for more livestock these days...

i get everything at his cost so thats one reason to stay.. and i do tank servicing on the side.. and i need the product for cost to make moeny at my accounts..... its a fun job ... i've learned alot and seen more things than a normal reefer gets too

our reef system if you were interested is basically 30 40 gal breeders with about 50-60lbs of rock in each.. stocked with corals.. each has a 96watt csl pc on it ... all the tanks are drilled and flow to a 300 gallon or so rubermade tub .. from that tub water is pumped to a huge 6' skimmer i think its an ETS water is also pumped through a 50gal juice barrel full of bio balls ... and we have a 30 gallon tank that is used to grow plants ... i have some mangroves with leaves in there now .. just last month they broke the surface of the water...

the fish sys has the 50gal of bioballs and has two 6' ets skimmer on em ... thats about it ...

some people might find that interesting

all make up water is run through a 5 stage ro/di

Because I worked for 2 different pet stores, and I was wondering how you deal with all the "crap" that comes along with it....I LOVED my job, and I can't wait to do it again.

Chris Mu.
12/02/2003, 12:17 AM
the crap.. heh heh . yeah .. but i've been there since i was 10 and im gonna be 2o this april .. lol i've known nothing but crap.. i grew up at this store

Blondee1970
12/02/2003, 12:23 AM
Family owned store??

Chris Mu.
12/02/2003, 12:28 AM
not my fam but yeah ... not a chain ... thats been a real plus .. we've outlasted every store in the area.. petco cant touch us cause they have crap for live stock same with pet quaters and pet smart.... petcos biggest downfall is the help... lol

in the past two months we've had the same thing over and over ...

they have a huge sale like a 2000$ sale on a big tank setup for salt .. they sell em a fluval and some regular aga strip lights .. yadayada .. after the sale is over they tell em that if they want fish and stuff that our store has help that knows more on saltwater and that we carry some better stuff...

the people come to us.. we sell em the right stuff and petco gets a hefty return the next morn.. i hate chain stores .. teh only good thing is that you can get horseshoe crabs for $.79 in teh summer and inverts are cheap.. if they live

Blondee1970
12/02/2003, 12:30 AM
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with a family store, that's what I want...but just don't get into it for the money, and not listen to the people that you hire for what they know, and then dismiss them, even infront of other people, because you want to make a sale, even though I know it's wrong...
To make a long story short,,,,,it's a Hard business..

Blondee1970
12/02/2003, 12:36 AM
well,, you must have done something right to be in the business for that long!!!

I want a Lambo, but seriously I think we are going to get a digital camera too. Cannon has a SLR 5.5 mega pixle for $1k. That is the lowest price for a camera like that so far. We bought a Nikon 35MM camera a couple of years ago and decided to return it and wait until we could get a high quality SLR digital at a somewhat resonable price.

I need bumpers before I can get a winch. I'll save that for an anniversary gift. Hehehehehe...

I think these (http://www.brookstone.com/shop/product.asp?product_code=355727&cross_flag=y&world_code=&category_code=&subcategory_code=&quickshop_code=&search_type=&search_words=) look kinda neat. Not sure how water changes and such work, if they even have to be done.

Have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks now. The thing about us is we buy what we pretty much want when we want it. Doesn't leave much as far as material things go for x-mas gifts. But, for those of you who have read the post "If adopted..Please read" I got the best x-mas present ever!!!!! Can't wait to open it!!:D
