If you have to pick one of them i would go with the prizm it's the better of the two, but not by much. I would recomend the Aqua-C Remora it's probably the best hang on skimmer and it goes for $164. If you decide to get a remora one suggestion get the one with the maxi-jet as the rio sucks.

Seaclone's aren't the best skimmer. They have a very poor reputation. Do a search here on RC for them and you will get tons of information and feedback. I would highly recommend you look into another skimmer. Aqua-C Remora's, as dave2184 recommended, are pretty good skimmers.

You'll find that this is a frustrating, and complicated hobby if you're on a budget. Just remember to research research and... research.

I bought a SeaClone as my 1st skimmer on my 29, without knowing any different.

In short, it's an okay, but not great, skimmer, *provided* you get the revised version (which virtually all new ones are these days)

Trouble is, it's underpowered for a 30, better suited for a 10. I prefer the CPR BakPak, and can be had on eBay for considerably less than the remora.

If you google, there is a website devoted to the CPR vs. the Remora. It might help you in your search.

Personally I have used the seaclone, prizm, and the remora. I believe the skimmer is one of the most important things for a saltwater setup and not something to skimp on. I would recomend the AquaC Remora with the maxi-jet. If you can't afford it just yet... wait until you can. It will out perform anything cheaper than it and even some things more expensive than it... IMO. However, I do believe the bak-pak is a pretty good skimmer. After you see what a protien skimmer takes out of your tank you'll wish you had bought one that can take more of it out! Just something to think about.

I bought a Seaclone and used it for 3 weeks with no success. Almost useless. I then got a Berlin XL skimmer and it is amazing. Very useful. If you have the room in your sump and the cash, I highly recommend. Berlin also has a hang on.

i have a cpr backpack and i think that if you're really trying to save a couple of bucks on a skimmer(compared to the aqua c remora) the backpack is the way to go. you can find them quite often on ebay

I agree, the AquaC Remora is a great skimmer, but you could probably get by with a bak-pak and save some cash. Only problem is when (not if) you get a bigger tank you'll wish you had bought a skimmer that could handle a larger tank. Just IMHO. ;)

I just used an old seaclone (revised edition) on a newly set up tank (10 gallon).

Running okay, then I add live rock, and I watched this thing going into a foaming frenzy, foam coming out the tops, everywhere!

Wish I had a camera, it was a beautiful sight (sniff)

Cheers!

I had one on my 29 they are a good skimmer for a smaller tank. I would say a 40 gallon for the 100 and a 75 gallon tops for the 150.

I have to agree with lofty also, i have a seaclone 100 on my 110 gal reef tank for about 2yrs 6 mos and it sucks up a full cup every 3-4days or pure protein, this $60.00 item has never failed me but that prizm has, i guess its all a matter of opinion, my water chemistry is in perfect order (no nitrite, no ammonia, <5ppm of nitrate), try the seaclone.

P.S. my tank is fully stocked with corals and a good amount of fish, my pics in my gallery will prove it, seaclone 100 keeps this tank perfect,

Funny thing.... I just hacked my seaclone apart to adapt it into my 10 gallon sump i just built. I didnt have the clearacne for in the tank so it will HOB of my sump...lol. I extended the intake line to drop the maxi jet ph into the bottom of the sump where ther is a baffle do I can have a SB around it w/ some rubble. Hope it works... Guess I will be w/o a skimmer untill I get the return line and pump though :D

I asked the same question a few weeks ago. You get alot of different opinions. Go with what you can afford and keep in mind what you might get later. So many people recommended the Remora and I ended up getting it from MArineDepot. I just put it on a few days ago.. so we will see how it does. Good luck and since there is so many opinions, do some homework.

A seaclone cost $60 and a Remora cost $200+. A 20 gal costs $27 and a 56 gal cost $100. There is no comparing the two.

I have a dual bakpak for my 56 and I just ordered a seaclone for my 20. If I had a 120 I wouldn't think of any of these. Yes the Remora is a better skimmer, but it doesn't cost 60 bucks!
