ok im a dumb a!@, i know why i couldnt get my alk over 3meq/l
i was useing the wrong pipet. i was basically adding double the drops so it was reading low. I doesed some apstasia with super stong alk through a syrenge yesterday and got snow on the second aps. tested it again and was showing 3meq/l..re-read the directions and sure enough i was doing it wrong!!! it was actually7.0meq/l:eek1: did a 10 gal water change right then andit came down to 4.5meq/l so i am happy with that. i have so far added xena,silver xenia,leather,spaghetti leather,1 ric polyp,and blue mushrooms, everyboys looks great, both xenia pulsing like mad after water change. so fellow newbies read the freakin directions in my case i will read them twice from now on. so i got my newbie mistake out of the way, i hope it is the last one but i doubt it!:(
