My box is a HP, AMD-K6 366MHz 64 Megs of RAM
Oh yeah, and how do I find out how much I can have max

Chances are you have PC100 RAM. I'm not sure what kind of documentation you computer came with but if it has a book on the motherboard, look in there and see if it states the max amount of RAM your board can handle. If you're not sure take it to a computer store and let them check it out or call HP and see what they say. I would think that a board that supports a 366 should be able to handle at least 512 Megs of RAM.

Hello, I may be wrong;) but if I'm not you should have at least PC100 SDRAM in your box, and your puter should be able to have at least 256MB of RAM. now I think you should be able to go to any of the big computer type stores and buy one RAM chip of what you. But the best way to tell is to pull the cover of your box and pull out your RAM (HEHE) and look at your chip to tell for sure. the chips say on them what type of RAM they are. You can always call HP and ask( ya right....wait on hold forever :smokin: ) if it were me I would pull out the chip and look at them,or it, then buy accordingly. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks!
If I have PC100, can I use PC133, or should I use the same type?

Hesaias, you should be able to use the PC133, if your puters bus speed isn't that fast it should still work.

hesaias,

Since you have an HP go to their site www.hp.com and lookup your system. It will tell you the type, size and max plus part numbers.

If you have PC100 buy PC100, yes 133 will work they will be forced to run at 100 so you pay for nothing.

You will still need to open the box to double check the # of SIMMs/DIMMS are in there and see if you can add more or have to replace. Lot of makers will fill your slots with small stuff since it is cheaper.

Hesaias,

is it this model?

HP Pavilion PC Model 6329H
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/support_doc/bph04582.html

If so it uses 2 - 168 pin for a max of 256MB of SDRAM, 66MHz, Intel PC SDRAM unbuffered DIMM specification, revision 1.0 compliant

My bet is that you have 2x32 for 64MB total so you will need to pull the current memory and add 2x128MB DIMMS.

Here is what I would do to speed the thing up

1) buy 2 128MB DIMMS for about $22.00 each
2) If you have a PCI slot free buy a Matrox G450 16MB PCI video card for about $115.00

Those two things will give you the most bang for the buck.

Hey man, that was a real close guess!
Mine is a 6360, basically the same box.
Im gonna go for the upgrade, as my F4U-1A Corsair is flying slow and low;), and I gotta get the graphics and speed up if I wanna get the Flight sim going good.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Oh yeah, where you get that RAM for 22 balloons each?

hesaias,

If you plan on using 3D games you don't want the Matrox G450, while it is awesome 2D it just a little above average on 3D. For cheap but really good 3D get a Voodoo5 5500 PCI 64MB. These guys are out of business but their cards rock.

I use the AGP 4X VooDoo5 5500 in my system running Windows2000. On Counter-Strike 3D game on the Half-Life engine I get 99fps at the higest res.

There is a card called G-force which is even better but cost over $250.00 where you can get the Voodoo for about $150.00

Hesaias,

Well there are many places. www.buy.com is the only place I can strongly recommend, since I have bought over 5K worth of stuff from them. they are not the cheapest but close and aweseome customer service

$27.00 for the memory, see link below

Here is a place selling the VooDoo5 for $109.00
I know nothing about them so make sure to use a major credit card.

I pulled one of my RAM DIMMs today, they say "PC66 DRAM"
Do I have to get the same thing(PC66) or do I go for PC100.
Forgive me for being a moron about the guts of these things, I oughta get my hands inside of them more often, but then I never have been a nomenclature kinda guy:p

I have 2 slots, so I will get the 2 128Meg chips, yes?

BTW, is all that dust bad? I got the dirt devil out and did some cleaning inside, but the little fan on the mother board was caked, so I had to crank up the air compressor:eek1:
Just kidding about the air compressor, I need to get a can of air, no joke.

Thanks for the help:)

hesaias,

Don't worry about PC66, it is the MAX speed the memory will do. Since your system memory bus is set for 66 the PC100 will step down to 66. PC100 is very common now and PC66 will be harder to find.

Be very careful with the vacuum, it could create static and damage the system, you be better off with the compressor. It never hurts to blow out the stuff. Best bet is to go to a Camera Store and get compressed air that is static free, will cost like $25.00. I use Professional Dust-Off fromFalcon.
