We had a discussion about refractometers at the meeting which was at Ian's house.
I use one and they are great and very accurate.
The cost varies dramatically, but this is the lowest I've seen so far at DIYreef.com (http://www.diyreef.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=35)
I don't have personal experience with them, but $43 is as cheap as I've seen for these devices.
Just FYI.
