No, it's not a golf story. I just got finished drilling a hole in a tank to be used as a sump. Just thought that I'd post here, because prior to this, I'd never tried it. It actually went much more smothly than I thought. In fact, I only tried it because I was willing to replace the glass after I broke it, by trying to drill it (lol).
It was pretty much as described in an old thread that was here on RC, but moved to:

http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/s...?threadid=26536

I'm testing the bulkhead for leaks even as I type. Just need to hook it up and I'll be ready for a massive water change on the new SPS tank. I have about 50 gallons all mixed and heated (and another 30 RO/DI run and ready for mixing).

This was a VERY exciting weekend (but I don't get out much).

thomor25,
I discovered an omission in your procedure last night. You never mentioned that it might not be a great idea to use a hammer (however gently) to "encourage" a pipe into the bulkhead. Now I have to try to glue a piece of plexiglass to the inside, to cover the breakage (lol, I never fail to amaze myself). If they have to put labels on the coffee at McDonalds warning people that it's "HOT", you should have included the step that says, "Use of a hammer to encourage pipes to fit the bulkhead, may result in breakage".

HTH,

That is an easy way and shortcut too.

I figured out how to do that and will try it sometimes this week. I put the rubber from the bulkhead on the glass and used marker from inside and outside to mark the circle this way if I cleaned outside then I still have the inside circle but I figured out how to get it straight perfect and will try it and will try to update with pictures.

I just paid 7 or 8 dollars for ONE diamond bit. $47.50 for a set seems like a good buy. I wish I wasn't totally broke!

I got the same set but I paid $0 for it and it was the last one at a friend's shop (good to have friends) And they work very good and you can start the hole with the thin one and then expand it with the other one and cut it with another.

Thomor: I have been busy and by the time I get home I check my emails and take pain killers and sleep. :) I will give you a call today to let you know about the hood. The size I wrote on my wall in the basement that day and I usually call around in the car and forget about it. I will find out today and will try to get the server going this week. Give me a call if you are up for a drive this coming Sunday to Rochester or anybody else.
