I just got the new Canon EOS 300D, I love it so far, I was going to get the Nikon D100 or the Canon 10D, but I chose this one over the others, and for the $600-$800 difference, i dont see it being worth it to go with the D100 or 10D. Just my 2 cents, if anyone else has this camera, pm me or post, and tell me what you think about yours.

I have a 300D as well so far I really like the camera ! The only problem I am having with mine is getting some good pictures of the individual fish in my tank ! I finally got some good ones after bumping the iso up to 800 + . I am going to order the canon f1.8 50mm lense to help with low light pictures . Here are a couple samples . This pictures are downsized considerably so if anyone is interested in seeing a full size picture I can upload one and send you the link .

Here is my tank little over 3 months old

take the ISO down to 100 and get a good shot of that tang. I am working one posting pics, i took them late lastnight at gaydec house, as my tank is FOWLR, until i set up the new one that is sitting in my garage. I am just slow :) look for some pics early today

give the flash a try! for fish pictures, as opposed to acropora pictures, the flash is your friend :p

LOL if you want a good shot of a tang at ISO100 with no flash you'll have to drop some cyanide in the water to slow it down. :)

LOL you think that might work :bounce1: .

I've tried and it washes out everything ! I am not to good at photoshop so I really can't do much to my pictures with it . I'm trying different things so maybe one day I will figure this thing out when it comes to taking fish pictures !

Ok sorry it took me this long to post a few pics with the new camera. It is a Canon Rebel Digital (USA) Canon 300D (Europe)

These pics were taken in hand, not on a tripod, I didnt take mine to gaydec (member) house and his was at work :( so here they are, kinda blurry but ok for in hand, I will be sure to post some more this weekend. After I setup my 180 RR tank.

just tagging along -- I've been thinking about picking one of these up myself. You've gotten a couple of great shots already for being hand held and not really knowing the camera yet!

I'll say... first shot is excellent and all of them have that very familiar "10D look" to me.

I don't own it but I've played with it quite a bit since my friend works at a camera store. I played around with that and the 10D for quite a while...

Really the only gripe I have with the 300D is that the shutter is relatively heavy IMO. When you click the shutter holding the camera with one hand, it might even be enough to jolt it so the picture comes out blurry. I compared this to the body of a Nikon N80 and the N80 has a MUCH lighter shutter IMO. The 10D seems to have a lighter shutter, but it may be because of the bigger size and weight. I don't think I can afford the 10D and the 300D is a great alternative. The shutter weight shouldn't really be that big of a deal, just hang on a bit tighter I guess, or use a tripod.

All this is JMO though of course, I'd love to hear from people who actually own the camera though and if they've had any problems with that. Also, it's nice that the 10D has Kelvin WB... it may be awesome for aquarium pics, but I'm sure TS can comment on that instead. Travis, how about a 10D vs. 300D shootout review with aquarium photography in mind?? ;)

Travis You know what Travis, I was just thinking... I look at some pictures and I sometimes think to myself... Hmm... that looks like a 10D pic. LOL. I don't really know what it is, maybe the good contrast and saturation of bright colors or something. I just can't put it into words really but oftentimes when I look at a pic I think: "Hmm, 10D." or "Coolpix 995/4500." :)

Hi guys,

I have a 1D (lucky me), and I was wondering what lens and flash technique you use. For that purpose the 1D will be identical to your 10D or 300.

Erik.

me is use the flash built in. with the new canon technology a flash is like $200 for the one i want, for that price i can get a hell of a lens or atleast a good downpayment towards it :) so I am not sure what to recommend to you bro, as i use the built in flash, it works from 15' in.
