View Full Version : Hannah vs Pinpoint PH meters?
Which is better. The Pinpoint PH monitor with probe found atPA (http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PA&Product_Code=PIN-PH&Category_Code=Pinpoint) , for 79.95;
or the Hannah PHep3 waterproof PH meter found at ARS (http://www.aquaticreefsystems.com/new_aquarium_meters.htm) (its the second meter down), for $79.99?
Hopefully someone will post that has used both, Rook. I have only used the Pinpoint (last 3 years) and have been quite satisfied with it.

I've had the pinpoint for a few years. No problems, holds its calibration well.

I also have the Pinpoint pH monitor. I did a search and found that many people did not care for the Hanna...

Well I already ordered the Pinpoint but was the Hannah was suggested to me so I thought I would check.
Do you guys keep the probe in the water all the time, or only when you want to check the PH? I would think only using it when you want to check the PH, would increase the time between calabrations and the life of the probe?

Mine is submerged 24/7. If you take it out you have to keep it in some type of "storage" fluid.
They say it is considered a "continuous" monitor... says so on the instructions...

I keep my probes submerged 24/7 also. Does increase the need for cleaning and calibration, but I don't mind the effort.
The storage solution would just be 4.0 Ph cal solution. You would just have to keep a little bit in the plastic cover for the tip.

I have a Pinpoint and am very satisfied with it.
I have a question about the probes. Do they need replaced very often? Or only if they break?
Mine is in the water 24/7

Pinpoint recommends replacing the probe every 18 months.
They also say that you should clean the end of the probe every 3-4 weeks with a soft bristle brush.

I have a Hannah pHep5, not 3. Its resolution is better than the pHep4 (0.01 vs 0.1)... whats a pHep3?
I like the meter just fine, never used a Pinpoint. The only gotcha is its gotta be in in metric mode to calibrate, no big deal but the instructions don't tell you that.
