My wife and I are due with our first baby in late July. We have choosen not to find out what sex the baby is so we have picked out a few names for each sex. We have clear favorites for both, but I wanted to see what the RC folks think so here is your chance.

We reserve the right to make the final decision :p

Thanks Joe!

Did you pick up on the spelling of any of the names?

Reagan has a nice, familiar ring to it!

BTW, what are the origins of the different ways of spelling Sara(h)?

My first wasn't named until the third day before leaving the hospital. The others got named right away.

Unsolicited advice: settle on the names before going into the delivery room (if using a hospital). If you let it go until you're in there, your wife will tell you what she wants, and you'll be too overcome and compliant to oppose her choice!

It'd be a little bit easier to vote if we know you're last name. To me it's important not just to have a good name, but to have one that goes with the last name. If you're last name starts with 'N', then I would go away from Reagan, for example, because the names sort of slur into each other awkwardly.

That's my little bit of advice for naming.

True Dave.

Also need to think about relatives' names, initials, and if there's a possibility of being tormented because of one's name.

Dave,

I see your point but I am a little hesitant about broadcasting my last name on the internet. Let me put your concerns to rest by saying that Kim and I have put a good deal of thought into how everyting sounds.

I won't hurt to tell you that my last name starts with an A and has three syllables.

Funny I have heard the exact opposite?? Both of my brothers said to have a few names ready, maybe even a favorite. Then when the baby is born you can decided if the baby really looks like a Sara or Elizabeth for example. Kim and I have already decided that if the baby is a girl she will have the final choice and I will have the choice for a boy. We both agree on all names in both lists and will be happy with any of them.

Thanks Scott!

We Choose 5 of them Poon was the collective thinking of the boys on IRC and of course will be eliminated no matter how the voting goes! :D

Well I've always liked Sarah with an H so thats the one I voted for. I couldn't agree more with what Dave said, I've seen some real interesting combos of first and last names where either name was OK by itself but together the full name made one cringe. Once again congratulations to you and mama.

Tim,
I've always loved the name Sarah too... that was my vote. The name Sarah reminds me of the Hall & Oates' song (giving away my age :p) Sarah's Smile... ooohh laaaa Saraaaahhhh's smiiiiile (breaking out in song here, sorry) What a sweet and lovely song. Congratulations, and many happy days with the new member of your family.

ps... this would be great to print out and keep in the baby book!

Signu, I thought about the last name broadcasting thing after I wrote my post. But all that reall matters is that the issue was brought up. My wife couldn't wait to change here last name because she had that problem where the two names just sort of slurred together if you tried to say them both.

And I agree about the other names in the extended family. At one point we had three cousins who all went by the same nickname. It makes holidays confusing.

Lori,

Great idea I think I might print it out. Although trying to explain to my child that I was even remotely thinking about Poon may be an issue-- no thanks to Q -Ball :p :p

Dave,

Here is something to think about. My name is Tim and wifes is Kim, as you might have guessed we have eleminated Jim for boys names.

Tim!!!!

Well, you know what my vote is!!!

"POON" or "Poonita" if is a girl!!!

Anyway, I know Kim would prolly kill me so I am going to go with my second choice that is:

Sara

But remember, to me, she or he will always be known as "Poon." :D

Keep on reefing!!!

I tell ya, you guys are great!!!

It looks as if Sarah is more popular than Sara, so If we choose Sara(h) I will throw on an H for the RC gang !

Kims fav right now is Elizabeth but I like Sarah and Reagan so this turning into an interesting little poll between Sarah and Elizabeth!

Please not Regan Sig! You're setting you're poor girl up for a life of being in the middle of a real-life RC poltical debate for the 80 or 100 years of her life!!! Go Sara, I know a few good looking girls called that :)
Good luck with it all.

Holy crap is this old- you must be really bored.....Well in the ned we named HIM Isaac. At the time of the post, or for that matter for any of our kids we did not know the sex. About 2.5 years After Isaac we had a Seth, then finally we had our Girl and her name was not on the list, we went with Anika. Odly close to the Anja that was mentioned earlier.

So there you have it no Poon, Just an Isaac, Seth and Anika or Ani as we normally call her.

Drauka- Take a look at my home town name

drauka99
12/28/2007, 11:41 AM
Cool, I dunno where the guy who built this town got the name but this town has been here since 1898 or so(officially chartered in 1912)
I figure they were from Indy somehow and liked the name. Who knows
