Hi! It is random, my overflow box will start making noise, stop, make noise, stop, etc. The lengths for each farting session is different. Any idea on what to do? I tried adjusting the valves, but I want to know if there is anything else I can do.
Also, what causes the sounds? Thank you!
(I can try to record the sound if needed, maybe a "squelching" sound? Not sure what to call it.)

Do you have a durso or stockman pipe?

The noise is likely due to air trying to travel up the drain pipe against the water that is flowing down. To help reduce this affect you should make sure your drain pipe does not go more than an inch or so below the water level in the sump. You can also run some air line down the drain pipe. Feed it all the way down and then pull it back up slowly, if/when the noise stops, secure the air line at that level and leave it there.

Does it really sound like a fart or is it more like a toilet flushing?:D

A toilet flushing, couldn't find the right word for it though! Hehe.
Uhm, also, I bought the tank as a complete set up, so I don't know a thing about the plumbing! That was why I bought it as as et, so I didn't have to mess with plumbing.
I took some pictures of all the pipes. If someone could walk me through exactly what to do, I would be very grateful! I also dont know if I have any "air line".
Also, I don't know which pipe is which either. (Drain pipe?) Sorry! =(

Thanks for the photos. In the last pics, the return line is the one on the right and the drain is the one on the left. In another pic the black fitting on the back of the tank is a SCWD (aka current switching device) and it is likely connected to the return, or might be in a closed loop with a separate pump, I can't tell from the pic. But anyway, the first pic shows the overflow box and inside is the stand pipe/drain fitting. Can you get a top down close-up pic of the overflow box? I think there should be a hole on top of the stand pipe that allows air to enter the drain pipe. Adjusting the amount of air entering this hole may be the key to quieting the fart noises. Also, the ball valves shown in the last pic, you can try closing the one on the return line slightly. Doing so will reduce the rate of water being returned and in turn reduce the amount of water going down the drain. In general you want to have the return flowing as much as possible but slowing it will reduce the likelihood of creating the fart noise. Never mind the air line idea for now.
As you can see I prefer using the term "fart noise".lol
Hey, I just thought of something. Any chance you can get some help from the person you bought this rig from? Not that I mind helping but some intimate knowledge of the system goes a long way.
BTW it looks like a nice set up:).
