My Q tank has a ph of 7.84, this is after one day of adding Kent Pro Buffer, which raises ph and alkalinity. My calcium level is 380, and my alkalinity is 4.4 meq/L or 12.32dKH. I have a few blue chromis arriving tomorrow, is there anything I should do to get the ph up higher? Would adding baking soda be ill-advised?

I am reluctant to add any more buffer or calcium to this tank. Thanks,

Nanook

That alk is pretty good. The calcium I wouldn't even worry about for a Q tank. Might want to check out the circulation of the tank, sounds like it might be retaining C02. The easy test for this is to vigorously airate a sample of water and then test the pH, if it as gone up than you have a C02 retention problem that can be solved with a simple airstone. Another possibility is the test kit or meter you are using being out of whack.
