I have been looking at the suspension cable system to hang my lights and was wondering if anybody has done this?

I like the clean look that it will give and it seems like if I can figure out a DIY it will be way cheaper than buying the kit at a reef store. This is what I'm talking about for those who don't follow http://www.reefgeek.com/products/categories/lighting/104208.html Thanks for any help ?

I went to Lowe's and purchased the cable in bulk and cable clamps. The cable even come platic coated. It was very cheap but may not meet your need for a "clean" look.

did you use the "loop" style or where you able to find the accesories to screw the pieces into the wall. If I can I would like to avoid the loop.

you have any pics

Not as clean looking as the previous example....but I like what this guy has done in order to be able to adjust his lamp height for stuff like maintenance, changing bulbs and acclimating new corals.
If this link doest take youi directly to photos of his set up, go to the pics sections and click on tank sys....he doesnt really get too in depth about the mechanicals of his mechanism...but I've been able to piece it together, and I'm going to use a similar set-up. HTH

I don't have the sleek, silvery look like the more expensive ones, but stil think mine looks pretty good. I went to HD and the have different chains on spools. I found a black, small link chain and bought about 30' (i have a lot of pendants). Then I bought black hooks that screw into the ceiling, some black "S" hooks and attached it all to my black pendants (Reef Optix) and it looks great. I would have rather used silver but the pendant is black.

thanks for the replies how is it with maintaining and how high up from the tank do you have your lights?

Dag, that's my favorite part, I just move the "S" hook up or down on the chain link. At the lowest point I would ever have it ~7" off the water, I crimped the chain link so it can't fall off. However, I can still move the "S" upwards to raise it for acclimation or for maintenance. The crimp protects if from falling into the water. This is a concern because the quick disconnect is also connected to the pendant, which could be stepped on, or of course my 18 month old wrecking crew could think it's a toy & pull on it. Wouldn't want a burning Radium to drop into my tank! I also closed up the bottom side of the "S" hook where it hold the pendant harness itself.

ahh i see very interesting, I 'm not sure if I want very clean looking or more functionality. Although I am leaning back toward functionality and now trying to figure out how to get both
