Hi Folks,

I've just bought a Blenny from my LFS. I'm almost convinced it's a Flymo Blenny but I can only find one picture on the whole of the net using Google. I'm pretty sure it's not a Lawnmower but can anyone help confirm this.

If anyone could provide some information on caring for him as I don't know what his primary diet is. Is it Algae only or will he also eat Brine Shrimp? He has been eating some Brine Shrimp but also has been spitting some out again!

Cheers.

It's an Orange Spotted Blenny - Istiblennius chrysospilos. Should eat any meaty foods offered. They don't really eat algea IIRC.

Thanks joetbs.

I checked back with my LFS where I got him as I was passing today and they are positive it is a Flymo Blenny and so that's what they had him marked up as. They all look so alike sometimes!

Actually these blennies (Istiblennius genus) are supposed to be big diatom, film algae and macro algae eaters primarily according to my research. I would offer it vegetable matter as well. I had one for a few months that jumped - very cool fish, almost eel like.

Here are links to fishbase for this species.

Thanks for the info. That would seem to fit in with his behaviour in the past few days. I've noticed him eating the sand then spitting it out (it's a relatively new tank so I have some Diatom algae round) and he was nibbling at the live rock.

He did also eat a few pieces of Mysis that the other fish let drop to the floor in front of him as well so I don't think he's too fussy !!
