I have several different shrooms and some ricordia. Some of the shrooms are spreading like weeds, zenia is spreading as is polyps. The ricordia is open wide and looks nice. However the other shrooms I have are not opening and one looks like its in big trouble. Here is a picture. It was open great and the next day it looks like it has spaghetti or worms coming out of the middle. I took it out of the main tank and put it in the lighted sump. The other 2 shrooms just aren't opening. I moved them down to the bottom of the tank yesterday thinking maybe they were getting too much light. They were 1/2 way down. The ric is all over the tank, some high some middle and some low, as is the shrooms that are spreading.
1. Any Idea what going on with this shroom in the picture? It was about 3" in dia when I first put it in the tank.
2. Any Idea why some of the other shrooms wont open and hang over limp? Any help appreciated..

Sorry Tank is a 55gal, Salt is 1.024,
Calc = 420
125lbs approx LR, 3-4" sand/crushed coral, 2 CBS shrimp, 2, Emerald crabs, 1 Sally, 1 Decorator, one pistol shrimp, 1-lawnmower, 1-bicolor, 1-clown, 1-chalk basslet.

Anything else?

Now that I think about it I did add some new salt water a few days ago and it went up 1 piont so yesterday I added fresh and removed some to lower it 1 point. It was running 1.023 untill last week when I added a bigger sump, I got it up a little. Im bringing it down slowley.

have you had any temp spikes lately. I have seen this a couple of time usually asociated with either splitting or temp spikes either hot to cold or cold to hot.

no no temp spikes. What I cant figure is why the brown ones just keep going and going and the pretty ones are having trouble. I also have 4 on crushed coral in the sump up high under the lights to attach and they wont open much either. They stay about 1/4" or less, although when new they were about dime sized.

Ok I just checked them again.
Calcium a little low at 300, no hard corals.
PH 8.4
No phosphate
No nitrates
No nitrites
No Copper
Amonia may be a little high. I got a fresh water kit by mistake and it reads 0.5, I dont think this is unusual though as I added 4 fish and 5 inverts last week. So I expected a spike. They are all doing ok.

As easy as mushrooms are they are finicky about where they are in the tank ie flow & light. Theres probably nothing wrong with the "limp" shrooms. They go through phases and seldom are they always fully extended. If you turned off all the water flow in the tank for hours they would probably explode open. As for spilling guts thats a dead shroom. A rhodactis I just go just did it. Just don't always expect act. shrooms to be always open and fully extended. Typically in my tank the shrooms that stretch are the ones that ended up(from natural spread) with less light than they really wanted or to reach out from behind a rock.

thanks, I just put in 4 more singles unattached under some pantyhose up high. I put those other 2 down on the bottem. I have brown/green ones that are everywhere always full open. Its the pretty ones that I am having trouble with.
Ill try turning off the power heads for a few hours.

I have the same problem, but for me it is my ricordea that isn't happy.
My water params. are like yours, except my calcium is at a low low 200ppm and the water is very alcalinic at 16dkh. So Im trying to get my calcium level up to 400's where it belongs...

yes Im working on the calcium also, I also found out that the Amonia is not high. I mixed up some new salt water and used the same test kit and it read the same. 0.5, So its the freshwater amonia test kit thats bad.
In the meantime I moved them to the bottem of the tank, but they still stay shrivled. Only the new ones though.
