I have been reading up on sumps lately and am beginning to want one myself. Does my tank have to be pre-drilled or are there other alternatives for the use of a sump?

Does anyone suggest making one over buying? If so are there any plans to go by? If not where could I buy a sump?

Hey jiminy_crime,

You can get a hang-on-the-back overflow to plumb your sump with. I have heard that this marineland overflow (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?siteid=6&pCatId=3635) is good. You might want to check out these Reefkeeping magazine articles:

If your tank is still empty I would drill it, no question about it. If the tank is already setup you will have to go with an extrenal overflow. I am not a big fan of these because they can lose syphon and your return pump with end up spilling the contents of your sump on the floor right before it runs out of water and burns up..... Of course that is worse case scenario.... :D
