Can some one tell me how the evaporation level will affect this sump. Will a float switch work and where would I place a float switch?

Your float can be in any of the three chambers. If you use a float, figure out what the "travel" of the float is b/c once the evap falls below the level of the upgoing baffles, there will be NO water flow through the sump. Personally I like the tunze osmolator--no "travel" essentially. Keeps water level w/in millimeters. You probably don't want the float in the section w/the skimmer/return b/c it may be turbulent in that section which messes w/them.

since my baffles are 10 inches high wont my level in the sump stay there until the water level falls in the main tank. Jim

no the evap shows up in your sump first. The overflows keep the tank water level steady while the water levels drop in your sump.
