I have just recently cut off a little section of some star-Polyps I have (Bigger than a Quarter size) , how does it grow and at what rate? Just wondering since I have never had any before.

Fast and faster with a little iodide. If you have SPS, keep it away from them. Rule #1 in reef keeping, cheaper corals, when left unchecked, always takeover expensive corals.

That's why aptasia is free.:)

I started with a patch the size of a nickel and now its about 4 by 7 inches and spreading too fast.

I add some Kents "essential elements" in about every week and a half. I has Iodine in it..

No SPS yet, maybe soon....

Thanks..

I think that was about 15 months ago.It took a little time after i got it before it started growing fast.I got it from a guy that was doing a tear down,so the first 3 weeks are so it was just getting used to the different tank.I really like these star polyps cause their a different color than my other green stars, more of a neon lime green.HTH

I have one colony that seams to have been kept in check by[Parazoanthus gracilis] yellow polyps.HTH

Do you think a torch coral near by will keep it in check...

This stuff grows like grass. I can not give it away fast enough. I have found however that the growth rate in my 25 under PC's is much faster. I have a colony that I put in my 130 under a mix of 250-400w Iwasaki, the spread rate under the MH has been MUCH slower. Seems like they prefer lower light.

Check out the huge colony,s on my page. Those also started out as a very small piece. I have sold/traded enough from that colony to cover a room floor,:D

I set my GSP's on the sand under the 400W MH and they grow like weeds! :D I can lean the rock up against a fist sized piece of LR and have that LR covered in 2 months, about a 5" x 5" rock. That's 25 sq inches in 2 months. I only set the GSP covered rocks on the sand, touching no rocks but the rocks I want it propagated onto!
