hey guys,
does it matter how tall the standpipe is inside an overflow? or does the height of the standpipe just determine how high the water rises within the overflow?

thanks

It won't matter other than the lower it is the more noise you'll hear, also yo'll get more bubbles

I tried the stockman modification, to no avail. I did however, reduce the noise and air bubbles by using part of this standpipe mod.

The way my standpipe is, I have a plastic screen inserted into the top of the standpipe. A prefilter surrounds this screen. The majority of the air was being sucked in through the center of the standpipe where it was completely open at the top.

So, what I did was, take a cap to close the top of the whole standpipe. I drilled (2)ΒΌ" holes to allow enough air to pass through. The water level in the overflow rose as a result, but only enough to completely cover the whole standpipe.

Now, it's much quieter and I no longer have bubbles being returned to the tank!!
