The best skimmer is the Top fathom. http://www.top-fathom.com/ I love mine.

Top Fathom sucks. For 55 gallon, try turbor flotor.

Tim, since the Bakpak2 is a HOT skimmer, an important thing to know is if you are looking for another HOT type skimmer, or will this be for in sump usage?

Tim, a good second question mightbe, what's your budget? The turboflotor is a good skimmer, and comes in the HOT species, but is rather pricey as a HOT. The AquaC Remora Pro gets a lot of good reviews, and the folks I know that are using it seem to like it. Though they are using them on smaller tanks than a 55g. I think the 55g starts to approach the range where you kinda start to exceed the limitations of the average HOT skimmer. Of course that all depends on your bioload, what you plan to keep, and your individual tank's set up(ie nutirent export mechanisms). Plenty of folks run their tanks skimmer free, using other methods, such as macro Algae, to remove excess nutrients from the water column.

As you are looking to upgrade your BP2, that rules out alot of the cheaper HOT's. If price is no object...Lifereef makes a really sweet looking HOT venturi skimmer. The Turbo Flotor HOT might also still be an option for you at this price point. OTOH, if you are budget minded, the Remora Pro might be a good option. FWIW, I've used the Knop HOT andthe Maddog HOT. I wouldn't waste your $$ on either of these. There are several others out there that might work as well, but these are among the more commonly mentioned.

I have a 40 gal tank with an AquaC Remora and I am very happy with it. I would think you would be fine getting an AquaC Remora Pro. It's very easy to use and service.
