Second word - compact. The RIO's pack a respectable amount of flow into a very small footprint. Many manufacturers don't want their equipment to seem bulky (and not fit in some spaces), so the RIO's seem a good choice. Unfortunately, some of the compromises that were used to pack that power into a small volume are now appearing to be problems. (the reef tank version of Ford Explorers and Firestone???)

but unlike ford theis larg companes like aquamedic and cpr 2 of the bigest skimmer manufactures will defend their choise of water pump. i have the turbo floter and would ahve paid without a problem an extra 10-20 to get a better pump

Jason at AquaC says, "we stick with the Rios for many reasons, and customer satisfaction is one of them".

I hate Rios. Mine totally sucked, really loud and had to be shaken to start.

I wish they would get a clue! RIOS SUCK!
