They seem to be multiplying like rabbits.
I have no idea where they come from or how they got there but my wife is scared to go down there now.
Do crickets bite ? And how do I get rid of them ?

Yeah armoured cave crickets no only bite, but they are very aggressive. Are they brown and stripe and have really long legs? Flood the basement with saltwater and put a couple of mantis shrimp down there

Crickets are harmless and will not bite. They are attracted to dog food and can be caught in a similar manner as crabs in an aquarium. Put some dog food in a glass jar and lean the jar at an angle against another object. As long as the jar has a narrow opening, the crickets will not be able to jump or climb out.

They're 3/4 to 7/8 inch long and color is light yellowish-brown.
Back legs seem longer than front.

Is it possible that these guys come up through the pipes somehow ? I always see them in the sink in basment utility room.

Any other options in getting rid of these guys short of floodding the basement ?

I can't use poison, got two cats.

I wonder if I can use the roach motel.

We do our laundry in the basement, my mother in law said crickets will make holes in your clothes. Is this true ?

In any case, I'll have to get rid of them somehow. My first attempt will be to use the vacuume cleaner. What you think ?

hehe

Sucking them up on site would keep the ones in the room to a minimum.
If they do make holes in clothes I wouldn't know- most likely is true.

I dont think they will actually harm anything, just annoy really. I used to keep a CPU on a floor in my basement, well I never turned it off so it was always warm. I had a cricket start a nice little family under it. After I killed them all, the chirping went away :)

Buy a cat or three and let them free in the basement for a few days. I let mine out every now and then to reduce my cricket population.

Then you have to buy a dog to get rid of the cat, who ate my lizard by the way.

If you can keep your cats away from them, I still say get a gluetrap, they will catch lots more than just crickets, like fleas, cockroaches, actually caught a copperhead with one

LOL!! A copperhead with a glue trap?? Sweet!

Well then, the glue and band of hungry kittens running rampage in the basement sound like the best suggestions to me.

Though mine would probably help to alleiviate you of that "wife" problem too..

Yeah the only problem was it wasn't dead, luckily it was stuck pretty good, and wasn't very big. If you put the trap where the cats can't go yo should get them all. Spiders are not a funny subject in my household, I get yelled at when she even sees a black widow in the yard. Like I put it there.

they will eat anything. Put flake fish food and maybe some F.D. Plankton in a tub or 10 gal tank with some empty egg cartons and turn it on its side. They will jump in and hang out. Potato or apple skin is good too. Do you think I have ever had this problem?
