Hi all,
I'm in the process of updating my site (last update was mid last year). I've re-done my home page, can you tell me if it takes too long to load. I've got an ADSL line and it's a moderate load time; I'm curious about 56K modem users.
If it's too slow, I'll eliminate the background.
Thanks

6-line,

Got Photo Shop?? if you do here is your problem. Your 3 opening jpgs are way to big, 275+ for each one.

Here is what you need to do.

1) Drop the total image size from there currents of 1024x1024 down to about 300x300 pixels.
2) When saving as jpg lower the quality from 10 for about 6, this will cause no image quality loss but will cut them down to about 60K.

Take this image, quality is good but the size is only 80K

Hi all,
Hartman, I do have Photoshop--I'll trim those pictures down. Does it cut them down in size or just pixels? I thought the lower the pixels the lower the size.
I have a new camera so I'll be taking more pictures to update the tank and fish and corals page. My kids just have to give me a moment!
Thanks Lori--that background was surprizingly easy to do.

6-line,

take the pic from the camera and then reduce the image size to 300 pixels. This will resize it to small size with all the details without croping. Then save it as jpg and reduce the quailty level to 6.

Yes the lower the pixels will make the total pic smaal but remeber most poeple run at 1024x768 so to make a natural size pics would be 300.

Hi,
This may seem like a stupid question, but why do most people run at that resolution? I run at 800x600, the words and such are too small on the 1024x768, at least I feel that way (and my wife, she's in charge). Do you enlarge the text but run at the larger scale?
Just curious.
Also, how do you change the quality level on Paint Shop?
Thanks.

6-line,

Well I have a 21" monitor and run a 1600x1200. I have supported developers in the past and most work on res. of 800x600 or 1024x768.

Open the current large jpg in PS and resize it to 300-pixel width. Lock the height so to hold the correct scale with the width. Then do a "save as" picks jpg and it will ask you a quality level. The range is from 1 -10. pick 6.

Okay,
I think I've gotten the size reduction thing down now.
Check it out again.
BTW, I had to replace the clown pic because I lost it somewhere and couldn't re-size it....
But it's replacement is pretty cool...
