View Full Version : White slime substance. Any idea?

I noticed on my rock and a sponge there is a white slime substance on it. It almost resembles a cocoon of a caterpillar. It doesn't appear to be on the rock completely. Most of it is but it almost looks like it encapsulates part of the rock. Is this ok? Should I clean it off or power head it off?

Thanks

I touched it with my fishing net and it comes off really easy. It appears what is underneath is a sponge of some type. Kind of like a blob type sponge. The red one seems to be breaking up so I stopped messing with it. The other one is on a green one and it still is soft and not flaky. Is this possibly a way they are healing? Or is this decomposing?

Thanks

It looks like its affecting 3 rocks so far. It appears to be only on my sponges and nothing else. Bumping for any other ideas that people might know of.

Sounds like it could be something decomposing. If you rock is curing, it is likely dead sponge flesh.
