Salifert for ca and alk, fast test for nitrate when I test , which is rarely. That's all I test for anymore. (Have a pH meter)

Ca- Lamotte
Alk- Lamotte and Tetra (its a much quicker test, results are just as good as lamotte but with less precision)
Mg- Salifert
pH- Pinpoint monitor

I like Lamotte best because they actually come with a case which is very convienent plus they are accurate, precise and relatively cheap when you consider how many tests you get out of each kit. I rarely do a lot of testing but these are the kits I use when I do.

i have tried a lot of test kits and most work about the same and you get the same resalts, the only one that i could not stand and ended up throwing away was the CA test kit by red sea. the make 2 one is a normal standard test kit and the other one is a Pro series witch i could never ket to come out right. i used 2 difrent sizr seringes and was a big wast of money
i realy like the ones that Aquarium systems makes their a little more$$ but most of the powders are prmesured

LaMotte complete Salt Water Aquarium Test Kit (AG-104) and also LaMotte calcium kit. A bit intimidating at first, but once you get used to it, just about as easy as anything else out there.

Salifert all the way. They are the best high-end tests for a reasonable price. I currently test:

Calcium
KH/Alkalinity
Organics
Iodine Iodide Iodate
Magnesium
O2

Salifert, Tetra, Seatest. I prefer Salifert but cannot justify throwing the others out just to change brands, but as I replace them it will probably be with Salifert. Skip

I personally don't like the LaMotte CA test. You have to mix a small amount (like 1 ml) in with about 10ml of distilled water. This just seems like it would throw off your results. Also, the syringe it comes with is hard to add a small drop, each drop is about one units which I think is close to 22 ppm CA. (these numbers are only from memory, but I don't think I'm that far off)
I do like LaMotte's Alk test

I like Salifert for CA
Don't really test anything else

SALIFERT or AQUARIUM PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. FOR EVERYTHING!!
The relatively new HAGEN test are really bad, the colors never match.

Hi All,
I just switched from Seachem to Salifert
for calcium. My problem is that the test does not turn blue until my tank would read at approx 850! With Seachem, I had a similar issue, but not such a large discrepency. I calibrated with my LFS and took the reading once it turned dark purple. Unfortunately, the Salifert doesn't turn dark purple. Should I just go for a deep pink? Thanks, Blithe

Do you guys get the Kent test kits there in the US? Here in SA kent have a nice one it has about 6 or 7 different tests in it and comes in a nice handy carry case. Anyone had experience with these test kit any recomendations whether they're any good?
