It looked like Alveopora, however I did not count the tentacles. What do most people refer to as a Cup Coral? Is my guess of Alveopora probably correct?

I thought cup corals were calcium loving hard corals that grew in a cup shape. Maybe they were flower pot corals or goniopora.

Most specieces of turbinaria are called cup corals. They are closely related to alveopora and giniopora but do well in most aquariums. They grow in a plate like cup and have polyps like alveapora.

I am thinking along the same lines as Docmal. The picture below is a tubinaria (cup coral) that I had. I liked it a lot.

I have always heard tubinaria called cup coral also, but it definately was not like the picture. This thing had each "petal" on a stalk (not real long). It looked a lot like Alveopora pictures I have seen. Just want to make sure something else is not very close in appearance and my guess is wrong.

I have one of the aforementioned "Cup Corals" (turbinaria peltata) and its doing quite well. It's about to have its one year anniversary in my tank. It is cup-shaped (well..actually more like a bowl), cream-colored with numerous "hairy" polyps that extend approximately 1/8" above the surface. Seems to like high to moderate light, and moderate water flow.
The picture in the previous post looks like turbinaria reniformis, also called yellow scroll.

My turbinaria is more like Johns. Here is a pic of mine, propagated by hacksaw and a piece of propagated alveropora
