I've been doing a bit of research on digital cameras lately too. In my opinion the Nikon Coolpix are the best, especially for macro shots. Some of the best tank shots I've seen are coming from these cameras.

We have had a CoolPix 950 for over a year and we love it but if I was going to buy it today I would wait until next month and get the CoolPix 990.

I have the 990. It is great. I have friends with the 800 & 950 and they love it. Look into purchasing the tiffen +10 & +7 close upi lens if you want incredible macros.

I have heard that a new model (995 ? ) is coming out soon. That shoudl reduce the price of all models...

check out some of my macros at http://www.atlantisaquatic.com/image4.html

Thanks Jim Hobbs.
You have found a lower price than i did. I would like to thank everyone for the help and your time.
Well the time has come to let you all no what kind of camera i am buying. I think the camera will take some awesome pictures of my corals. I have looked at about a 100 or so pictures of other cameras. The Nikon 880,950,990,995.
I have also looked at pictures from the Olympus 460z,3000,.They all take some really nice pictures. I wish i could buy the Canon EOS D-30 But the wife said your dead if you do. ($3000)
So i am going with the Nikon CoolPix 995.
Thanks everyone,
Ric

Now comes the real challenges ->

#1) getting the place to send it out if you decide not to buy the accessory package (I switched my order 3 times before I found a commpany that would sell it to me without buying the accessory package)

#2) Figuring out how to work the beast! My 880 is simple to use for any purpose other than closeups and "warm yellowish lit rooms". Closeups are VERY hard to get so they're not blurry. Also, with a 1 second snap picture time, it's very difficult to get good pictures of fish which don't stay very still.
