Well... I'm still new to it, so I wouldn't have spent as much as others who have been in the hobby for MUCH longer... so the poll isnt' exactly accurate... I'll answer anyways!!

i don't think you'll get too many honest answers with this one since many of us reefers are in denial as to how much this hobby actually costs. well... at least we're not honest to our significant others:D .

Someone running a 30 gal for a year is not going to compare to some one running a 100gal for 5 years. Bu I put my answer in

I have a 150....

Tank/stand/12" canopy $1750.00

300lbs live sand, 150lbs live rock $1000.00

equipment, sump, pumps, skimmer, chiller, lights, fans $ 2500.00+

Corals/Fish/clean up crew: $1000.00

Ro/Di, booster pumps/40 gallon tank/auto refill/salt ect $750.00

Used to have Metal halides and Reactor $850.00

And do not forget about 8% tax

Well over the $5000.00 mark.... I choose not to lie to myself :D

And after all this money I consider it a steal for all the joy we get from the tank.

I've got around $1700 wrapped up in my 29 gallon that I've allmost had a year.

I am in denial, but I'm absolutely certain we've got $5000 in the tank. What I'm in denial about is a number double that. I am suddenly reminded why I'm stuck eating crap. At least when I get home from lecture I get to eat my crap food by a wonderful tank.

Unfortunatly I keep receipts. But I don't have to explain anything to anybody. Bein single does have it's advantages. This poll doesn't have one for idiot stage, does it?:bounce1: :bounce2: :bounce3:

Well, one would think that for my small 30 a person wouldn't spend that much. right. I save all my receipts, but I will never add them up because I know I'll have a stroke.

Just when I think I need to quit this hobby before I go to the poorhouse, I'm looking at 100g tanks........this is worse than gambling

I cant believe that many people have spent over $5000. I thought I spent alot at $1500. However I only have a 55 galoon im sure these people have bigger tanks.

I had a feeling alot if not most of the people would be over $5000 i mean look at some of the setups people have. I've seen some of your setups and you have like 5000 just in filtration/lighting.

I keep a running spreadsheet of all my current livestock and equipment. I figure I have spent well over $10K on this hobby...or should I call it an addiction.

For my 155 I have over $5,500 in my current equipment alone. Another $2,000 in livestock

This doesn't include salt, RO filters, food, lost livestock, or any of the "wrong" equipment I have bough over the years.

GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!!!! :spin3: :spin1: :spin2: :hmm5:

So far $3,100 and that's with just a cleanup crew so far....

Like eddiem, my setup was probably over $5000 without water in it. It is finally getting to the point though that I am able to sell enough frags to maintain it every month, and it is actually starting to pay me back for all that investment.

$10K just to get water in my 330 gallon. I'm guessing another 3-4K to fully stock it over the next year or so.

I think your poll need to have categories up to around $50,000. You should have much wider ranges in the high end. In my 110gal system, I'm in the $12,000 range.
