Need Help! - Signal Goby

I should have done some research before I bought him. Hindsight being 20/20, I now need some advice. I have a small signal Goby, and after doing some research I realize I may have made a poor decision. What can I do to keep him happy and healthy. Does he/she need a tankmate? If so, how can you tell the difference between male and female?
