Brian, you have some of the best macro shots I've seen. I need to send you a few of my better ones. That last one is sweet.

Do you use a tripod when taking those shots?

John,
put your macros up on your site. I will link to them like the growth sequence.

I have a page for customer macros http://www.atlantisaquatic.com/image5.html

Hi Brian,

The detail on that pic is really nice. You seem to have photo taking down to a science.

Good work!

Actually... I take 10 pics to get a good one.... sometimes it's 20 to 1 :)

But thanks....

The new lenses really help!!!!

Great pics :)

BTW a profesional UW photographer I met several years ago told be that he is happy if he gets one good shot in a roll of film (36exp at that).

Brian,

I just got some Hoya closeup lenses for my Canon G1, hoping that I could get some nice macro shots like those. But I haven't had any luck so far. Are you able to use macro mode, or do you have to switch to manual focus? I realize that these are completely different cameras; I'm just trying to determine whether it is realistic to expect my autofocus to work with one of these add-on lenses attached. I'll also be interested to hear whether you use a tripod or not. I can get real close now; I just haven't been able to get really sharp focus.

Brian,

Ditto. I've got the coolpix 880 and would love to know what mode/settings you use.

Just for the sake of discussion...

Here are three macro pictures I just took using my Hoya +10 close up lens. The first two, of the Derasa clam and the mouth of the Cynarina, are pretty decent. The last one, of the Blastomussa Wellsi, is pretty lousy, but is the best out of 10 tries. The common denominator between the first two pictures is that these animals are right next to the glass, whereas the blasto is maybe 6 inches away. I'd be happy being able to take macro pictures the quality of the first two anywhere in my tank. Any tips on how to achieve that goal (camera settings, techniques, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.

Brian,

Do you use a tripod when taking those shots?

Do you change any of the camera's default settings?

I have the CP 950 but no add on lenses.

Brian,

How close to the subject are you when taking those macro shots ? I noticed with my Raynox macro lens that anything more than 1" from the lens and my camera (Coolpix 900) won't focus.

Nice pics Brian....

johnl... don;t know if your talking to me or Brian Foley :) but...

I sometimes use a tripod... not with these pics though

I use total automatic....

sometime i use the "best shot" function that takes 10 pics quickly and decide which one to keep automatically

Too confusing with two Brian's in this thread...

---

Simon,

If you were talking to me, I had my lens touching the glass when I took those shots.

---

Brian (Conger),

OK, I officially hate you now. Total automatic and no tripod. Grrr!

Nice pics! You guys are going to make my wife mad. Because you are just making me want a coolpix more and more and shes going to not be so happy about that ;) hehe. Great pics.

And that snail is a baha that you have a close up of and no name :)

My two cents

Zerrez,

If you're going to get one, I'd wait for the new 995 to come out. Among other things, it has a 4x optical zoom, rechargeable battery, and popup flash (to address the redeye problem with the 990).
