When the impeller needle wheel that EuroReef had attatched to the modified Eheim 1060 impeller started falling apart they told me I needed to upgrade to the Sedra 5000 pump. To make a long story short the upgrade was the end of any good skimming I've had out of my EuroReef!!!! To think that I would be charged so much for such a downgrade! I was a die hard EuroReef F2 owner and fan. It pulled more out of my 175 than any other skimmer I had owned. Now I might as well not have one on my system. What I used to get in the cup in 3 days I don't get in month with the new pump. You will be sorry!! Sorry but it's the truth. Not sure I can back a company that fails it's customers after a sell.

Mako did you replace the 5000 with a 9000? If so what difference have you noticed in performance? Was it an easy switch?
Thanks,
Steve

Yeah, I replaced my 5000 with the 9000. At first I didn't think there was much difference, but now that I have observed the skimmer in action for a few months with it I can say it surely does increase the performance.

The 9000's discharge ends up being a little higher than the hole drilled in the reaction chamber for the 5000 on the 8-2. What I did to overcome that was raise the skimmer up by gluing two pieces of 3/4" PVC to the bottom of the skimmer. Since the bottom plate of the 8-2 is made out of PVC this was accomplished very easily with a little PVC glue. This brought the hole in the reaction chamber to the proper height for use with the 9000.

Cool, if you don't mind me asking where did you get the pump and how much was it?
Thanks,
Steve

I asked the vendor about DIYing a second pump onto my CS8-3, and they claimed that it couldn't be done. Any of you guys ever think about trying something like that?

I have thought about that Eli. I am thinking that plumbing the existing pump as a recirc and then providing input via another pump might be even better though. Kinda like what they do on the bigger trubofloaters like the 5000 series skimmers. I see Jeff is doing this with the external ER's now also.
