Could i do a pair of maroons by themselves in a 40 breeder? there would be no other fish in the tank. I am at some point going to get a sebae for whatever clowns i go with to hopefully host when i get it (probably in about 7 months).

I believe that a 40 gallon is the recommended minimum for Maroon Clownfish.

Also, Large Xenia or Toadstool Coral make great alternate hosts for Clownfish (if that interests you).

GSM broodstock do just fine in even a 20 gal cube.

Oama,
what size broodstock tanks do you have success with on different species of clowns.
From this post you saying maroons will spawn in a 20.
What about other clowns?

If I "read" the pictures right, Oama has all of his tanks interconnected. From previous posts he has said that he keeps all the clowns in 10g and 20g tanks.

I think for the average home tank, i.e. one that is no part of a very large water volume, you are going to have problems maintaining water quality in a small tank. Maroons are such "sea pigs" and require large amounts of food; I would not recommend anything less than a 20g tank (even that is really small). A 48" tank would be much better.

Yes, JHardman is quit correct. We have our 20 gal cubes in set of 16 with an 80 gal sump (~400 gal in system). If it's a stand alone tank, then I would go with a larger volume. Sorry to mislead. I'm use to working with systems that are over 4,000 gallons :)

40 + 15 + 10 are the 3 volumes for the tank, sump, and refugium minus the water volume lost to about 40 lbs of liverock and the sand in the tank and fuge.

Yep they should be fine with that setup.

That sounds like a good set up to me :)

As for our broodstock, all our clowns are spawning in 20 gal cubes. Some of the smaller species (ocellaris, etc.) may sometimes be first paired in 10 gal aquaria. We have only so much room for broodstock.

If you want to see it, check out the 360 degree pics at.... http://www.orafarm.com/ . Look under the "Hatchery Tour" "Virtual IPIX Tour" "Broodstock".

I would still like to see some pictures of the larva tank(s) and your rotifer setup(s).
